The 5 days Dagala Thousand Lakes trek itinerary in Bhutan is an easy and most trekking days are short with some long steep climbs. It starts from Khoma, near Thimphu and ends in Chamgang, Thimphu. The trail leads to a large number of lovely and shimmering high altitude lakes. As you trek through the crystal clear lakes and pristine forests, you will be treated with the panoramic views of the Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Everest, Jomolhari, Kanchenjunga, Masagang, Jichu Drake and more. You will also visit some Bhutanese villages on the way and understand the typical Bhutanese way of life. Today, we start Dagala thousand lakes trek itinerary. In the morning, drive to Geynekha (1 ½ hours). On the way, view Tamchog monastery built in 15th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo.
Drive further to Genekha and walk past Tsochekha village.
Packed lunch will be served. Hike to Gur crossing a suspension bridge through oak forest.
Distance: 7 km, walking duration: 4 hours, altitude at campsite: 3290 m.

Cross the pass at 4240 m for a view of spectacular Dagala village. Pass though several herders camps enroute to the foot of the broad Labatamba valley at 4300 m near Utso lake. Camp near the lake at 4300 m.
Walking distance: 12 Km, 5 hrs, ascent 1040 m, descent 110 m.

The trail climbs along the western side of the lake and you can see good mountain views. From the pass there is a steep descent to another lake at 4350 m. A short distance beyond the lake leads to the valley and then to Panka at 4000 m.
Walking distance 8 km, 6-7 hours, ascent 260 m, descent 520 m. Camp at 4000 m.

We cross a pass at 4000 m, then climbs along the side of the ridge to a crest at 4270 m. From here there is a view of the Dagala range and a view of Thimphu valley, far to the north. It is then a long descent through forests to the temple and village of Talakha (3080 m).
Walking distance: 8 km, 6-7 hours, ascent 180 m, descent 1100 m. Camp at 3080 m.

Today is the last day of Dagala thousand lakes trek Bhutan. We walk downhill on a steep trail to Chamgang (2640 m) from where the vehicle will pick you up and drive to Thimphu.

Morning – Drive to Punakha valley via Dochu la pass (3140 m). A short stop at the Dochu la pass to view higher Himalayas. The colorful annual Druk Wangyel festival is held here on the 13th December
Drive further to Punakha. On the way, visit Chimi lhakhang built in 1499 by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The divine madman”. The temple is also known as “the temple of fertility”.
Afternoon – Visit to Punakha dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
In the evening, drive back to Thimphu.
