Tour Details

Paro Tshechu is one of the most famous festivals in Bhutan.  Throngs of people,travel from around the world and neighboring districts to participate in the festivity. On the last day of the celebration, a gigantic Thangkha (Thongdrel) of Guru Rinpoche will be displayed inside the Dzong. The Thongdrel will be displayed early in the morning and for a few hours only. It is believed that  one can cleanse their own sins upon viewing the Thongdrel.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Paro – Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m | 56 Km | Drive: 1 hour drive.

Meet and greet at the Paro International Airport and drive to Thimphu.

On the way, view Tamchog monastery built in 1420 by Thang Tong Gyalpo, popularly known as Lama Chazampa.

While in Thimphu, visit to

  • National memorial chorten (1974) built in the honor of late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Tashichho dzong, seat of the central monastic Body. The grand annual Thimphu festival is held every autumn.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 2Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.

Morning, visit to:

  • Tallest statue of sitting Buddha (51.5 meters) at Kuensel Phodrang park.
  • Changangkha lhakhang, one of the oldest temple of Thimphu valley.
  • Takin preserve center.
  • Sangaygang view point.
  • Dupthop lhakhang, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.

Afternoon, hike to Cheri monastery (Hike: 1 hour).

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 3Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing | Altitude: 1242 m | 76 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

Morning – Drive to the beautiful Punakha valley. On the way, visit to:

  • Dochu La pass with its 108 stupas and you can see the beautiful Himalayan ranges in the north bordering Tibet. The annual Druk Wangyel festival is held here on the 13th December.
  • Chimi lhakhang built in 1499 by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The Divine madman”. This Temple is also called the temple of fertility and is the main highlight of honeymoon in Bhutan.

Afternoon – Visit Punakha dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. In early spring, the grand Punakha Tshechu festival is held at the courtyard of the dzong.

In the evening, walk the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan (160 meters) across Pho chu river.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 4Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang – Thimphu | 90 Km | Drive: 3 hours.

Morning – Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling monastery (20 minutes walk one way).

  • This temple was built by Her Majesty the Queen Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. The chorten houses paintings belonging to Nyingmapa traditions.

While in Wangdue Phodrang, view the dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Lunch will be served at Dochu La cafeteria.

Afternoon – Visit to the weekend vegetable market.

In the evening, witness archery match at Changlimithang stadium.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 5Thimphu – Paro and witness the Paro festival Bhutan 2024 | Altitude: 2280 m | 56 Km | Drive: 1 hour.

Morning, visit to:

  • National postal museum, where you can make your personalized stamps.
  • Textile museum.
  • School of 13 arts and crafts or Zorig Chusum.

Afternoon – Drive to Paro and witness the Paro festival Bhutan 2024.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 6Paro – Witness the Paro Tshechu Festival Bhutan.

Morning – Drive to the Paro Rinpung Dzong to witness the Paro festival Bhutan 2024 (Full Day).

In the evening, excursion to the beautiful Cheli La pass (3988 m) that separates Paro from Haa valley. You can see the beautiful view of the Himalayan ranges including Mt. Jomolhari.

On the way back, visit to the Kila Gompa nunnery.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 7Paro sightseeing – Hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery | 7 Km | Hike: 4 hours.

Morning – Hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery (Taktsang). It is 2 hours walk uphill till the monastery.

Afternoon, visit to:

  • Drugyel dzong built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The dzong was destroyed by accidental fire and is under repair now.
  • Kyichu lhakhang, the oldest temple of Bhutan built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan king, Srongtsen Gampo. He built 108 temples across the Himalayan region in a single day and Kyichu is one of them. The other prominent temple he built is Jambay lhakhang in Bumthang valley.

In the evening, visit to a Bhutanese Farm house.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 8Paro – Witness the Paro Tshechu Bhutan 2024.

After breakfast, drive to the dzong and witness the Paro tshechu Bhutan 2024 (Full day).

In the evening, free to explore Paro town.

Day 9Paro – Departure (End of Paro Tshechu festival Bhutan 2024 tour).
